MY BACKGROUND

Alyssa Polzin became interested in speech therapy when she was young, as she needed help with articulation from age four to age ten. As she got older, she had to decide what she wanted to do with her life. She knew she wanted to help others, but wasn't sure being a full time teacher was the right fit. Then, she rediscovered speech therapy.

After completing her undergraduate degree at Elmira College in December of 2014, Alyssa continued on in her studies to the College of Saint Rose to earn her master's degree in Speech Language Pathology in December 2016. Between the two programs, she gained experience in a wide array of settings, including public schools, private schools, private clinics, specialty clinics (fluency) and an outpatient rehab hospital.

As a professional, Alyssa worked for a not-for-profit agency in the Buffalo area, where she was contracted to a school for students with moderate-severe autism aged 5-21. She completed her 9 month clinical fellowship there, then transitioned to a public school setting for the last 3 years. At the public school, Alyssa works with children from kindergarten to fourth grade targeting a variety of skills from articulation, receptive language, voice, fluency, expressive language, and feeding/swallowing. Alyssa has also worked part time for a preschool for children with disabilities, providing preschool intervention for children ages 3-5.

Alyssa is an ASHA certified speech-language pathologist, she has her professional license in Speech-Language Pathology and also has her teaching certificate for students with speech and language disabilities.

Small Town Speech Therapy is happy to open its doors in 2021.
